Membranes in the 3d Cellular Solid Model Provide the Micro-/macro Scaling for the Long-wavelength Acoustics of Real Foam Samples

چکیده
The general objective of our work is the optimization of the long-wavelength acoustic properties of real sound proofing foam samples. In this purpose, our general methodology is to use the method of periodic unit cell (PUC) reconstruction of porous media which consists of two main steps. In the first one, the critical local geometry features governing long-wavelengths acoustic wave propagation and dissipation phenomena through porous media are identified. Then, one generates three-dimensional (3D) parameterized PUC suitable for optimization purposes, in which macroscopic properties are obtained by integrating the relevant partial differential equations. This short paper presents recent developments in the field of critical local characteristic sizes identification with application to real polymeric foam samples, where emphasis is put on the techniques which have been devised to account explicitly for the fundamental role played by membranes in the overall transport phenomena.

متن کاملA Macro-model for Nonlinear Analysis of 3D Reinforced Concrete Shear Walls
Architectural limitations in many situations make it necessary for the RC shear walls to be extended in plan in different directions at a single location that makes them a 3D configuration. Analysis of such walls is very challenging. In this research about 450 cases of 3D shear walls are considered with different shapes and heights. L, T and H-shape walls are studied. They are nonlinearly analy...

Flexible Polyurethane (PU) foam samples with different densities and chemical formulations were tested in quasi-static stress-strain compression tests. The compression tests were performed using the Lloyd LR5K Plus instrument at fixed compression strain rate of 0.033 s-1 and samples were compressed up to 70% compression strains. All foam samples were tested in the foam rise direction and their ...
متن کاملA direct link between microstructure and acoustical macro-behavior of real double porosity foams.
The acoustical macro-behavior of mineral open-cell foam samples is modeled from microstructure morphology using a three-dimensional idealized periodic unit-cell (3D-PUC). The 3D-PUC is based on a regular arrangement of spheres allowed to interpenetrate during the foaming process. Identification and sizing of the 3D-PUC is made from x-ray computed microtomography and manufacturing process inform...
متن کاملScaling and Fractal Concepts in Saturated Hydraulic Conductivity: Comparison of Some Models
Measurement of soil saturated hydraulic conductivity, Ks, is normally affected by flow patterns such as macro pore; however, most current techniques do not differentiate flow types, causing major problems in describing water and chemical flows within the soil matrix. This study compares eight models for scaling Ks and predicted matrix and macro pore Ks, using a database composed of 50 datasets...
